Sebring Airport Takes Center Stage in Heartland Living Feature on Advanced Air Mobility
The future of aviation is taking shape in Central Florida, and Sebring Regional Airport is helping pave the way.
The October/November 2026 issue of Heartland Living magazine features an extensive article by Christy Swift titled “A New Layer of Sky: Advanced Air Mobility Is on Its Way to the Heartland,” highlighting the emerging technologies, infrastructure and regional opportunities associated with advanced air mobility (AAM).
The multi-page feature includes interviews with Sebring Airport Authority Executive Director Mike Willingham and Deputy Director Andrew Bennett, who share insights into the future of aviation and Sebring’s potential role in this rapidly developing industry.
Advanced air mobility encompasses a new generation of aircraft designed to transport passengers and cargo over short and regional distances. Among the technologies being developed are electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, which could eventually provide new options for regional transportation, medical services and access to underserved communities.
Sebring’s Vision for the Future
The article explores Florida’s plans to develop an advanced air mobility network, including proposed connections among communities throughout Central Florida.
Sebring Regional Airport has been looking toward this future for decades.
“We’ve been working on this since the mid-’90s,” Willingham tells Heartland Living, describing the airport’s longstanding commitment to positioning itself for emerging aviation opportunities.
The feature also discusses Sebring’s existing facilities, available space and infrastructure priorities, including plans for the electrical capabilities needed to support future aircraft charging operations.
Bennett emphasizes the importance of educating communities about how these emerging technologies could affect everyday life.
“This technology is going to be more integrated into our everyday lives than we realize—we’re not simply moving people,” Bennett explains in the article.
A Region Positioned for Innovation
From emerging aircraft technologies to Florida’s investment in research and testing at SunTrax in Auburndale, the article provides a comprehensive look at the opportunities and challenges ahead.
With its aviation infrastructure, forward-looking leadership and commitment to innovation, Sebring Regional Airport is well positioned to participate in the evolving advanced air mobility industry.
We’re pleased to see Sebring Regional Airport and its leadership featured in this important discussion about the future of aviation.
